Bilum France

The brand Bilum was found in 2005, situated in Paris, to raise awareness on sustainable fashion by producing their 100% French responsible and ecological manufacturing. They focus on pieces such as bags and belts that are wearable day by day to items such as advertising banners, and airbags. They do not focus on fashion only, instead they also take into account a sustainable approach onto safety measures such as life jackets or ensuring you are using sustainable materials to advertise your product by manufacturing banners. Each piece is produced out of disposed materials, giving the item disposed a second life in a form of a bag or an accessory. Each piece is unique, with a different touch and application to it, which makes it so outstanding and interesting.

For example the canvas bags are made from torn sails that fisherman cannot reuse for the purposes of sailing. Instead they are collected by Bilum to reuse them to their benefit. It ensures excellent performance, resistance and practicability. The sails used are saved and donated by the Club Med company to contribute to the protection of our environment. With every bag sold the company receives 5 euros that go to the MED expedition, which is an environmental campaign against pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.

The brand is a French pioneer, unique in its approach on a variety of products and constantly evolving, innovating and presenting ideas that have not been incorporated in France as to this day, perhaps not even in many other countries. With each step of the fashion cycle they approach, they ensure it to be sustainable and ecological. They are ready to by pass the difficulties by keeping up their dedication to sustainability. The Bilum studios are responsible for preparing, sorting, selecting, cutting, cleaning and storing the materials. All of those materials are taken from all over France, only the zips, they confirm, might be taken from other European countries. All the cleaning and preparing is done by the employees of social insertion companies while the production is completed by institutions that welcome disabled people. In my opinion their approach reflects a very sustainable commitment and aims to cover every aspect of the fashion supply chain.
